ORPHANS:

There are 70,000 new AIDS orphans each year.  It is estimated that there are now, in 2010, over 20 million children orphaned by AIDS with the highest number of orphans due to AIDS living in South Africa.  347,000 are found in Gauteng Province alone – the small province in South Africa where 1Hope serves.  .

1Hope currently offers relief such as food, clothing, schooling supplies and other life necessities to orphans in desperate situations living without any adult daily caring for them.  We run many projects throughout the year to provide for children such as these.

1Hope also has 2 families thus far that have taken orphans into their home, giving them a family that cares for and gives daily love, training, and discipleship.

We are also currently raising funds to open a Baby House where abandoned babies can find a safe, warm and loving home as they await a forever family.

HOW YOU CAN BE INVOLVED.

REFUGEES:

As in most countries, it is virtually impossible to know how many undocumented migrants reside in South Africa or where they come from. The South African government most often cites an estimate of 4 to 8 million in the country at any one time, but this is likely an exaggeration.

1Hope serves many refugees from DRC, Zimbabwe, Guana, Malawi, Zambia, Kenya, Burundi, Nigeria.,.  Many having fled their countries due to unending war and fear for their lives.  Others, such as those from Zimbabwe have found their way to South Africa because of a crashing economy leaving no jobs, no money, no supplies, and even little food.

1Hope currently offers relief such as food, clothing, housing assistance, schooling supplies and school fee assistance to refugee individuals.  It is our goal however, to not just offer relief and leave them always struggling and waiting for the next loaf of bread.  Therefore, we work hard to bring these people out of relief into rehabilitating their lives and developing them into persons that are able to use their gifts and talents to glorify God and provide for their families from the fruit of their labor.

1Hope offers job training and internships.  We are also currently involved in several “start-up” business projects for several refugee individuals.

1Hope is also currently raising funds for a Refugee Safe House.
